Sphere was aiming light like a flashlight on glowing smoke.
Solid sphere of glowing white light appeared out of nowhere in the sky as if someone turned on a giant flashlight. Approximately 10 or 20 miles away, the object appeared to be anywhere from 1,000 to 10,000 feet in altitude. And at the same time as the appearance of the sphere was the beam of light shooting down from it at an angle. Very bright, far brighter than any light I have ever seen, for a moment I thought heaven was opening up and peeking down at us. The strong beam was pointed directly onto a glowing red, twisted, tornado-like cloud. The sphere, glowing cloud,
and white beam were all stationary for five minutes. As the sphere and beam appeared out of nowhere, so did the glowing red twisty, tornado-like cloud, which appeared to touch the ground as a tornado would, but was totally stationary. However, the "tornado" did not have a cloud above it, as it just dissipated into the sky, about 1/4 the heighth of the sphere. After five minutes of sitting totally stationary, the sphere and beam of light disappeared completely, but the red glowing cloud stayed stationary. Gradually, the glowing cloud dissolved into nothingness over a period of another five minutes.

Flashing/"Signaling" Clouds Witnessed
ISUR Case File #100068
Witnesses were near Heard County High School when they noticed a
strange looking cloud "flashing." Driving home, a few miles souteast of
where the high school is, they noticed that the funny-appearing cloud
was still where they last saw it. Now just after dark, they could see
that there were no other clouds (they could see stars all around). The
so-called "cloud" was still emitting flashes that did not go outside the
cloud.
They though it very strange that the flashes seemed to repeat in a
sequence and lightening was never seen to leave the cloud. The
cloud--several miles long and high--was very dark and the internal
flashes occurred steadily ever 15-30 seconds. The mother and her two
daughters(one age 11, and the other over 21 who the field investgator
was unfortunately unable to talk to) sat on the steps to their house and
watched a smaller cloud come up from the West and begin responding to the
"signals" of the much larger and darker cloud.
The two witnesses the FI talked to said they had never seen "clouds"
act as such and they did not think they were clouds! No other clouds were
seen in the sky according to them and they said there was no wind. (Earlier
in the day it had rained sporatically and lightly with some strong southerly
wind gusts up to 30 knots according to the National Weather Service.) The
large cloud was about 5 miles away and at around 10,000 feet high.
This cloud was in size probably 2 miles long. It was totally black, and had
yellowish and pinkish orange flashes that popped up inside and along the
cloud's edges in, what seemed to the witnesses, to be a sequence. The
popping was not random and whenever the large cloud "signalled," the smaller
cloud responded with its own flash, but only from one corner--the closest
corner to the larger cloud. No lightening strikes were observed to come out
of either cloud and no noise was heard to indicate thunder. The flashes
occurred steadily in a pattern that went from one side to another and going
all around the perimeter of the large cloud. This went on for the entire
time the witnesses observed the cloud (thirty minutes). It was the distinct
impression of the witnesses that the flashing between clouds was not random,
and the mother even wondered if the dark "cloud" was a form of camoflauge
to conceal something else going on inside the cloud (she suggested a hidden
UFO).

Silent Flashes From Clouds With "Tunnels"

At 6:15 PM on October 28th 2000, I was coming out of a gas station in North Bellingham and saw a
flash in the clouds above me slightly to the North. I looked up in the area of the flash and saw a
tunnel like cloud trail descending through the clouds in that area. At that moment, I saw in other
flash slightly to the east of the first one, with the same result which was a tunnellike cloud trail
descending. I stood there and watched for another few minutes but saw nothing else.

Note:
Bright white low to the ground flashes -- some appearing from circular "clouds" the size of the moon -- each flash followed by power outage covering a large area were seen on September 24, 2000 and October 21, 2000 nearLewisville Lake, Texas.
These low to the ground large bright flashing lights may indeed be the same as the lights high in the atmosphere in late July 2000 over this area. (See http://tracers.8m.com/flashes.htm for more information)
